You’d be surprised at how many famous celebrities train regularly in Jiu Jitsu. Celebrities Jiu Jitsu is becoming more and more common. Here’s a list of a few that you may well know.
1. Joe Rogan
One of the biggest podcasters on the planet! He is also a stand-up comedian, UFC commentator Joe Rogan is a lifelong martial artist.
He competed in taekwondo at a young age and began training Jiu Jitsu in 1996 under Carlson Gracie in Hollywood. Now he trains under 10th Planet black belt under Eddie Bravo and he also received his black belt from Jean Jacques Machado (above). If you’re a fan of The Joe Rogan Experience you’ll know he’s a huge endorser of BJJ and he often encourages his listeners to try Jiu-Jitsu.
2. Russell Brand
Russell Brand is an English actor, comedian, activist, yogi and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner.
Russell recently received his purple belt and trains at Roger Gracie Academy in Bucks.
3. Guy Ritchie
British action movie director Guy Ritchie is known for films such as Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Sherlock Holmes and The Gentlemen just to name a few. He was also married to Madonna for a while.
He’s trained in BJJ since the early 2000s and holds a black belt under Renzo Gracie, which he received in 2015.
4. Jason Statham
Jason is a Renzo Gracie purple belt. Not only does Statham train Jiu Jitsu but he also trains karate, kickboxing and more.
Needless to say that Jason Statham is just as dangerous in real life as well as in his films as has starred and featured in lots of action-packed blockbuster hits such as War, The Transporter, Crank, Snatch and more.
5. Mario Lopez
Mario Lopez has appeared in numerous projects, he co-hosted the second season of the American version of The X Factor with Khloe Kardashian.
The Gracie Barra purple belt has started to do competitions, posting about his results on his Instagram.
6. Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy has brought BJJ to mainstream news with his competition success. Tom Hardy began training in 2011 to prepare for his role in the film Warrior.
He still trains BJJ regularly and is often getting out there on the competition mats. Go tom!
